ABSTRACT
The article presents a speech by Nancy Huston, Officer of the Order of Canada, delivered at the University of Ottawa upon receiving her an honorary doctorate, held in Ottawa, Ontario in June 2010, in which she discussed human suffering, literature, and the negative effect of oil extractions in Alberta's tar sands where its spills could lead to cancer development on First Nation inhabitants.
