ABSTRACT
The EU RoHS Directive regulates the material composition of equipment that depends on electrical current or electromagnetic fields in the following product categories: 1. Large household appliances; 2. Small household appliances; 3. IT/Telecommunications; 4. Consumer equipment; 5. Lighting equipment, including light bulbs; 6. Electrical and electronic tools; 7. Toys, leisure, and sports; 8. Medical devices; 9. Monitoring and control instruments; 10. Automatic dispensers; 11. Semiconductor devices. The six hazardous substances included in the EU RoHS Directive include lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE). A new iteration of the RoHS Directive will be published in 2012 and will come into force on January 3, 2013.
