ABSTRACT
This article focuses on United States Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-Ill.), who was elected in 1994, after long-time involvement in his father's presidential campaigns and civil rights activism. The biographical information details Jackson's early life and childhood, as well as how his career path led him into politics. While his position on the death penalty and his advocacy on behalf of African nations has provoked debate, his most controversial stance is in regard to the U.S. Constitution. In a book entitled "A More Perfect Union: Advancing New American Rights", Jackson draws upon his civil rights background and legal training to argue that Congress should be taking a more active role in the continued shaping of the U.S. Constitution.
