Information about Oprah Gail Winfrey, famous African star in the television industry in the U.S., is presented. Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi where she spent her childhood. After she graduated at the Tennessee State University, she was able to work for the American Broadcasting Co. (ABC) as a reporter for the network's local evening news. She established "Oprah's Book Club" in 1996 which was intended to promote literacy to all classes of Americans.
