ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "stoma" is presented. It literally means mouth or orifice and is commonly used to describe the surgical incision on the abdominal wall performed during a operations such as colostomy or ileostomy. The stoma created in surgical operations allows the intestines to be transferred into a bag or a pouch placed on the skin's surface.
