ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "false positive" is presented. A test result that wrongly suggests that a particular disease or condition is present is referred to as false positive. An example of a false positive is a mammography result which suggests that a patient's has breast cancer, but subsequent tests suggest a healthy breast tissue.
