ABSTRACT
Warthog, a wild pig found in Africa south of the Sahara. The adult warthog is about 5 feet (1.5 m) long and 31 inches (80 cm) high at the shoulder, and may weigh more than 220 pounds (100 kg). It has a large head and a flat face, on which a warty bump grows under each eye and lower down on each cheek. Long, upward-curving tusks grow outward from the sides of the mouth. Except for the tip of its tail and the sparse, bristly mane on its head and back, the animal is almost hairless. Warthogs live on grassy plains and in open forests. They feed mainly on roots, tubers, and grasses. They are preyed on by lions and hunted by Africans for food.
