ABSTRACT
Sand Lance, or Sand Eel, a small marine fish found in schools in shallow waters of northern seas. The sand lance has an elongated body, a pointed head, and a prominent lower jaw. It is metallic bluish-green above and silver below and grows to eight inches (20 cm) long. It burrows in the sand to escape predators. Of the 12 species, 3 are found in the United States�the American, northern, and Pacific sand lances.
