ABSTRACT
Hercules Beetle, a large, dark insect found in tropical America. The male, about five inches (13 cm) long, is one of the largest insects known. A large horn projecting from its upper thorax (chest) and a smaller one from its head resemble pincers. A closely related insect, the rhinoceros beetle, lives in the southern United States.
