Audubon Society (in full: National Audubon Society), an organization of persons interested in conservation, especially in the preservation of wildlife. The society sponsors educational centers for children and adults; operates ecology camps for teachers, youth leaders, and other adults; sponsors a nationwide lecture program; conducts research; and supports conservation legislation. The society also manages about 100 wildlife sanctuaries nationwide, totaling some 150,000 acres. The society awards the Audubon Medal annually to an individual for distinguished service to conservation. Publications include Audubon, Audubon Activist, and Field Notes.
