Addax, an African antelope related to the oryx. Addaxes live in the central and southern parts of the Sahara desert. They grow up to 40 inches (1 m) tall at the shoulder. Large addaxes weigh about 265 pounds (120 kg). Both males and females have a pair of twisted horns, 30 to 40 inches (75 to 100 cm) long. An addax's coat is light brown and is paler in summer than in winter. The animal has white underparts and facial markings, and a dark forelock. One young is born in winter or early spring.
