Marlin, a large ocean game fish related to the sailfish and spearfish. The marlin is prized by anglers for its great fighting ability. It has a long, spearlike snout; a crescent-shaped tail; and a long, tapering dorsal (back) fin. The largest species is the Pacific black marlin, which may exceed 14 feet (4.3 m) and weigh more than 1,500 pounds (680 kg). A smaller Pacific species is the blue-backed striped marlin. Atlantic species include the blue marlin, which may exceed 13 feet (4 m) and weigh more than 800 pounds (360 kg), and the white marlin, rarely more than 150 pounds (68 kg).
