ABSTRACT
Grunt, or Ronco, any of several food fish found in tropical and temperate waters. Grunts are named for the rasping croaks they produce by gnashing their pharyngeal (throat) teeth when disturbed. Most of these fish are one to two feet (30 to 60 cm) long. Many are brightly hued; some have brilliant red or orange mouth linings. The white grunt and yellow-and-blue striped porkfish are numerous off the Florida coast. The sailors choice and margate are common along the Atlantic coast.
