ABSTRACT
Thomas, E. Donnall (1920-) is an American physician who performed the first human bone marrow transplant. Bone marrow transplants are used to treat patients with leukemia and other potentially fatal blood diseases and disorders. For his work, Thomas shared the 1990 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine with American surgeon Joseph Edward Murray.
