ABSTRACT
Information about economic conditions in the Spanish colonial system, during 1550-1800, is presented. Gold and silver mining was fostered by the crown in its colonies. The mines of Mexico became the most productive between 1590 and 1630. The important ones were in the districts of Zacatecas, Taxco and Pachuca.
