ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "community" is presented. It refers to the collection of individuals or users of a Web site, mailing list or newsgroup, generally united through a common interest. Web sites, such as Geocities and Tripod, are an example of online communities who have built successful businesses by renting web space to anyone who wants it.
