ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "strychnine" is presented. This refers to a convulsant alkaloid from the Indian tree Strychnos nux vomica. Strychnine is highly toxic. Poisoning with strychnine can cause convulsion, hyperreflexia, increase in muscle tone, and even death. It binds to the inhibitory glycine receptor.
