ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "urease" is presented. It refers to an enzyme that accelerates the hydrolysis of urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia. It is used in determining the amount of urea in blood or in urine. It also refers to an enzyme used by certain microorganisms to facilitate their existence in otherwise inhospitable body locations.
