ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "toxic shock-like syndrome" is presented. It refers to an infection in which the initial site is skin or soft tissue. The syndrome is dangerous for adults or children and it is readily transmitted from person to person. There is a history of a minor usually nonpenetrating local trauma that within the next 1 to 3 days develops into the usual toxic shock syndrome.
