ABSTRACT
Two references for the term "tar" including tar and coal tar are presented. Tar refers to a dark, viscid mass of complex chemicals which is obtained by distillation of tobacco, coal, shale, and organic matter. Coal tar refers to a sort of tar which is produced in the destructive distillation of bituminous coal.
