ABSTRACT
A definition of the medical term "supine hypotensive syndrome" is presented. It refers to sudden fall in blood pressure because of diminished venous return caused by compression of the vena cava by the gravid uterus when the pregnant woman rests flat on her back. Its synonym is vena caval syndrome.
