ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "stroking" is presented. It refers to a massage technique of moving the hand over the body surface, used to facilitate relaxation and improve flow of tissue fluids. It also refers to a technique of slow tactile stimulation over the posterior primary rami, used to inhibit muscle responses and promote relaxation during neuromotor rehabilitation.
