ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "stomatocytosis, hereditary" is presented. It refers to a medical disorder of erythrocytes generally inherited as an autosomal dominant. A membrane defect in the red blood cells allows the entry of excess sodium ions and water, which eventually induces the cells to swell.
