ABSTRACT
Two references for the term "stippling" including stippling and gingival stippling are presented. Stippling refers to a spotted condition, while gingival stippling refers to an orange-peel appearance of healthy gingiva, which is believed to be because of the enlargement of the connective tissue papillae in response to massage and brushing the teeth.
