ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "spruce" is presented. It refers to any of the evergreen coniferous trees and shrubs of the genus Picea. Exposure to spruce dusts can lead to reactive airways diseases such as asthma. The gum of the spruce is used as an expectorant in complementary and alternative medicine.
