ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "sarcoidosis" is presented. It refers to a chronic multisystem disease of unknown etiology, characterized by noncaseating granulomas and lymphocytic alveolitis. In the southeastern United States, it occurs most often. The lungs get involved in 90% of cases of sarcoidosis, and are the basis for fatigue, weight loss, anorexia and night sweats.
