ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "saliva" is presented. It refers to fluids secreted by salivary gland and oral mucous gland. The secretion begins the process of digestion. It moistens food for tasting, chewing and swallowing, initiates digestion of starches, moistens and lubricates the mouth and acts as a solvent for excretion of waste products.
