ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "saccule" is presented. One meaning refers to a small sac. Another refers to the smaller of two sacs of the membranous labyrinth in the vestibule of the inner ear. Its wall has the macula sacculi, a sensory area containing hair cells that respond to gravity or bodily movement.
