ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "raphe" is presented. It refers to a crease, ridge, or seam denoting union of the halves of a part. Its synonym is rhaphe. Several references to the term including buccal raphe, lateral raphe and palatine raphe are presented. The palatine raphe refers to a line or ridge in the median line of the palate.
