ABSTRACT
A definition of the medical term "proteus" is presented. It refers to a genus of gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, motile bacilli that inhabits the intestinal tract and causes protein decomposition. It also means a cause of human infection especially of the kidneys, ureters, and bladder.
