A definition of the term "preventive nursing" is presented. It refers to the branch of nursing concerned with prevention of the occurrence of both mental and physical illness and diseases. There are three levels of preventive nursing such as primary, secondary and tertiary for general health promotion, early recognition and treatment of disease, and incurable diseases respectively.
