ABSTRACT
A definition of the term "polyhydramnios" is presented. Polyhydramnios is a condition in which the volume of amniotic fluid exceeds 2000 ml during the last half of pregnancy. During polyhydramnios, acute polyhydramnios occurs suddenly between 20 and 24 weeks' gestation and is marked by a rapid increase in volume. The symptoms of polyhydramnios include a taut abdomen, a fundal height increased out of proportion to gestation, and difficulty in auscultating the fetal heart rate.
