ABSTRACT
A definition of the medical term "molecular disease" is presented. Molecular disease refers to the disease due to a defect in a single molecule. An example is sickle cell anemia, in which a single amino acid substitution in the hemoglobin molecule causes the abnormally shaped red cells characteristic of this disease.
