ABSTRACT
A definition of the medical term jaw thrust is presented. It refers to a maneuver used to open the airway of unconscious patients or of patients who cannot control their own airway. The procedure involves jutting the patient's jaw forward to move the tongue away from the back of the throat. The procedure is used in opening the airway of patients with suspected spinal injury.
