ABSTRACT
A definition of the medical term "central nervous system" is presented. Central nervous system refers to the brain and spinal cord. It is composed of nerve tissue that forms the brain and spinal cord consists of gray and white matter. Gray matter is made of the cell bodies of neurons, and white matter is made of the axons and dendrites of these neurons. White matter transmits impulses within the central nervous system.
