ABSTRACT
A definition of the medical term "ballism" or "ballismus" is presented. Ballism or ballismus refers to a condition marked by violent jerking, twisting movements of the extremities. It is an obsolete term for Parkinson's disease. The term originated from the Greek word "ballismos" which means jumping about.
