A definition of the medical term "ballism" or "ballismus" is presented. Ballism or ballismus refers to a condition marked by violent jerking, twisting movements of the extremities. It is an obsolete term for Parkinson's disease. The term originated from the Greek word "ballismos" which means jumping about. The definition is from the "Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary," published by F. A. Davis Co. The pronunciation of the term is also provided.
