ABSTRACT
A definition of the medical term "anencephalus" is presented. Anencephalus refers to the congenital absence of the brain and cranial vault, with the cerebral hemispheres missing or reduced to small masses. The term originated from the words "an-" which means not and "enkephalos" which means brain. The definition is from the "Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary," published by F.A. Davis Co. The pronunciation of the term is also provided.
