ABSTRACT
A definition of the medical term "abduction" is presented. Abduction refers to the lateral movement of the limbs away from the median plane of the body or lateral bending of the head or trunk. The term also implies movement of the digits away from the axial line of a limb or outward rotation of the eyes. The definition is from the "Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary," published by F.A. Davis Co. The pronunciation of the word is also provided.
