ABSTRACT
The family of puffer fish has nearly 118 species of unusual fish. Like the family of porcupine fish, the puffer fish are able to fill their bodies with air or water when danger threatens. This causes them to swell to two or three times in size. Their increased size, tough and prickly skin, and poisonous flesh prevent many predators from eating these fish, which have also been called swellfish.
