ABSTRACT
Slovakia is bordered by the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary and Austria. The Slovak people first settled in the area of modern Slovakia in the 5th century C.E. Following the war, in 1919, Slovakia was united with the Czech part of Austria in the creation of Czechoslovakia. Slovakia was hit hardest as its economy was closer to Eastern European standards than the more western economic design of the Czech Republic. Slovakia has a one-house parliament called the Slovak National Council which is a body of government that decides on laws. The President of Slovakia is chosen by the Parliament, and the Prime Minister is chosen by the president and approved by the parliament. It has a moderate climate. The primary area for agriculture in Slovakia is in the southeastern part of the nation.
