ABSTRACT
The article discusses the highlights of the Mountain Safety Council's Southern Hemisphere Avalanche Conference (SHAC) which was held in Christchurch, New Zealand on June 10-12, 2011. Bruce Tremper of the Utah Avalanche Center introduced and discussed the North American Avalanche Danger Scale. The PowerCloud snow information database from Canada was introduced by the New Zealand Mountain Safety Council. A brief overview of the weather condition in New Zealand in 2011 is provided.
