ABSTRACT
The article discusses the highlights of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's (CIPD) HRD conference that was held on April 21-23, 2009 in London, England. Chris Pakinson of American Express claimed his company is refocused on using its internal knowledge. He noted how his company saved money by replacing a yearly worker engagement poll with an external provider with more frequent employee pulse checks. Vikki Matthews of Nike said her company employs self-managed learning as executives transition into a new role.
