ABSTRACT
The article discusses the highlights of the Society for Biomaterials Translational Biomaterial Research Conference, which took place in Atlanta, Georgia in September 2008. Carl McMillin of Synthetic Body Parts said that smaller medical technology companies are forced into a biomaterials crisis, with companies taking little chance with providing their materials for fear of liability issues. He reported that the beginning of the biomaterials crisis began with the DuPont and Vitek series of cases in 1993.
