ABSTRACT
The article discusses the highlights of the International Petrochem Conference 2008 held in India. The event focused on the imposition of import duty of 5 percent on naphtha in the budget. Ram Vilas Paswan, Minister of Chemicals & Fertilisers, stressed the tremendous growth opportunities in the Indian petroleum chemicals (petrochemicals) industry. Keynote speaker Peter Jordan talked about a number of new projects in the Middle East that have slipped on the time schedule because of rising capital costs.
