ABSTRACT
The article presents the highlights of a symposium on Plasmodium vivax (P. vivax) at the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene annual meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Doctor Eli Schwartz of the Sheba Medical Center shared his experiences with relapsing P. vivax malaria in travelers to the Omo River in souther Ethiopia. He and his colleagues showed that up to one-third of reported malaria cases occurred despite the use of blood-stage malaria chemoprophylaxis. Doctor Alan Magill detailed the use of primaquine.
