Information is presented about a paper discussed at a special session at the Advances in Consumer Research North American Conference about participatory action research (PAR) in consumer studies. Topics included research methodology in developing nations, the use of local knowledge and folk theories in research, and transformative consumer research. Potential new approaches and practices for consumer researchers were also discussed.
