This section presents the Advertising Age & Money.com's online market index of the top 50 publicly traded marketing and media companies for the week ended April 23, 1999. Procter & Gamble reported an 8 percent gain in worldwide profits in its fiscal third quarter ended March 31 on a 4 percent gain in sales. It cited sales and earnings gains from premium-price product initiatives in North America. Unit volume in North America was up 5 percent and profits up 16 percent.
