ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the controversy surrounding the imposition of penalties on U.S companies for not blending cellulosic ethanol into gasoline and jet fuel. He states that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has fined refiners 6.8 million U.S. dollars for not blending a nonexistent product as mandated by the Renewable Fuel Standard of the Energy Independence and Security Act. The author cites a report which explained that by 2022, mandated cellulosic supplies will not materialize.
