The author discusses aspects of the debated proposal by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to expand the switch paradigm of retail pharmacists using communications and diagnostics technology. He explains that this would make prescription products available in over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceutical services. However, the author thinks that unlocking the technology could open up massive new OTC categories that can surpass compliance standards.
