ABSTRACT
The author asserts that social media still faces challenges before it becomes the de facto marketing and communications tool. He discusses several factors behind the apparent reticence to social media in the healthcare and corporate markets which include generational and political aspects as well as the nature of business. He notes that social media tend to be a losing proposition among political agencies due to operational difficulties. He stresses that new concepts, regardless of whether it is technology or a plot device, will not be accepted by all.
